Introduction
What is Sharkord?
What Sharkord is, what it deliberately is not, and the sort of group it is built for.
Sharkord is a self-hosted communication platform that brings core Discord-like features to your own infrastructure. It shares the philosophy of TeamSpeak, with a modern interface and a focus on being easy to run.
You host the voice channels, the text chat, and the files. Nothing leaves your machine unless you make it.
Core Principles
- Self-hosted
- Lightweight
- Clean interface
- No tracking or telemetry
- Open source
- No paywalls or premium tiers
- Easy to deploy
What You Get
- Voice channels with screen sharing and webcam
- Text channels, threads, replies, reactions, and direct messages
- File and image sharing with per-role storage limits
- Roles, per-channel permissions, and invites
- A plugin system for anything else
What It Is Not
Sharkord targets small and medium private communities. It is not trying to replicate every Discord feature, and it is not built to host large public servers.
